MUM: Where's Chris and Julie? There's something I need to talk to you all about.
YASMEEN: (Holding stomach and groaning.) I hope it's about what's for lunch: I'm starving!
LORENZO: I saw Chris sitting on top of the birdcage doing his homework.
MUM: (Staring towards left.) Er, Chris what do you think you are doing?
CHRIS (OFF-STAGE): Miss Studywell said that for homework we should write two pages on our favourite pet.
MUM: I think she meant that the subject of the homework should be about your favourite pet.
(Enter CHRIS sheepishly.)
CHRIS: I knew that. (Pause.) Should I tell Julie to get off the dog kennel?
YASMEEN: Forget her, just get me some food: popcorn, crisps, anything.
MUM: Come on, Julie! There's something very important we need to discuss.
(Enter JULIE and CHRIS sitting at table. All children are attentively listening to MUM who stands at the head of the table.)
JULIE: Mum, there's no need to give us a lecture on responsibility. I know what this is about: I used up the remainder of your expensive make-up. It was me. But, Lorenzo said it was okay if I experimented using lipstick and blusher on him.
LORENZO: Aghh! You said you'd never tell anyone. I'm so embarrassed.
MUM: Um, thanks for telling me. It's not about that.
(Chris nervously puts hand up.)
MUM: Yes, Chris?
CHRIS: I never meant for Julie's favourite Barbie to get destroyed: the parachute I tied on Barbie's back didn't open as planned when I threw it from the tree house and then Bingo decided to chew the Barbie and bury it like a bone. Sorry, Julie.
JULIE: Eek! My Barbie.
(Yasmeen and Lorenzo nervously put hands up.)
MUM: Hold it everyone! This is about something completely different. ...
