Scripts for Kids Drama Plays

Larry the fish tells an overjoyed King and Queen that they are to be blessed with a daughter. Unfortunately, at the christening the evil fairy Oksana places a curse on the young princess: she will prick her finger opening a tin of baked beans on her sixteenth birthday with terrible consequences. Only the bravest of knights can lift the enchantment – and George has to overcome some of his own fears before he can rescue the princess.

Total number of characters without doubling is 34 (15 females, 5 males).  With doubling of roles, the total number of roles could be reduced to 28.  Alternatively, the number of characters could be increased to 36 with the addition of non-speaking roles.



SCRIPT SAMPLE:

(Enter IZOLDA.)

IZOLDA: What a charming event. Pity no one invited me. How dare you!

QUEEN ALENDRA: Alvaro, didn't I give you Izolda's invitation last month?

KING ALVARO: Yes, my Little Gooseberry and I took it straight to the post off... (Placing hand in pocket.) No need to worry, it's not lost: it's in my pocket. (To Izolda.) Are you sure you didn't receive it?

(Izolda shakes head and holds out hand impatiently.)

KING ALVARO: (Giving Izolda envelope.) Here you are.

MAID: Could you let us know if you can make it by last Friday? We need to let the caterers know.

QUEEN ALENDRA: (Clearing throat.) Please stay, Izolda. I think it's time for the gifts to be presented.

(Each Fairy steps forward when it is their turn.)

LILAC FAIRY: (Waving wand.) I will give Marie the gift of beauty.

LILY FAIRY: (Waving wand.) I shall give Marie the gift of musical talent.

LAVENDAR FAIRY: (Waving wand.) My gift is kindness.

WILLOW FAIRY: (Waving wand.) My gift is intelligence.

KING ALVARO: Huh! I've been King for twenty years and I've never needed any intelligence.

QUEEN ALENDRA: That's why I run the kingdom and you play golf all day.

KING ALVARO: Oh, right.

RAINBOW FAIRY: (Removing small carrot from pocket.) My gift is a carrot. I used up all my magical fairy dust this month. But, it's organic!

(Sound effects: THUNDER.)

GUARD : Not again!

(Enter OKSANA angrily.)

OKSANA: So, did you forget my invitation as well? How convenient!

KING ALVARO: No, you weren't invited because you're just so mean.

OKSANA: You will regret those words! (Pause.) What a perfect little girl; you must be so proud. It's time for my gift, but you won't like it...
