ANZAC Hero: Private Jack Simpson

This 20 minutes play is suitable for performance by children aged 8-10 (Years 4-5).

The play has been written to educate audiences of all ages about the heroism of Private Jack Simpson and the ANZAC forces at Gallipoli.  .

Private Jack Simpson was a stretcher-bearer who rescued an estimated three hundred wounded soldiers at Gallipoli. He was known to his fellow diggers as 'the bloke with the donkey'. Whilst the play is humorous in parts -in keeping with Jack's larrikin nature- it also conveys the tragedy of his ultimate sacrifice and the heroism of the Anzacs at Gallipoli with sensitivity and in a manner appropriate for the age group.

The play has a total of 26 characters; 1 role is recommended for acting by a girl, 3 roles are recommended for performance by boys. With doubling the play could be performed by 21 children. Alternatively, the cast could be enlarged to 28.

The script includes recommendations for music (music right not included), suggestions for costume and set arrangement and a list of required props.
